Massage & Reflexology
Relax Recharge Refresh

Massages have been proven to be beneficial for many people and for many different reasons. Some use it to simply relax and unwind, while others have regular massage to help them manage or cope with specific physical, mental or emotional problems.  Professional athletes have massage before and after training and competing, to stay in optimum condition and aid recovery.  People recovering from operations or health conditions or for help with relaxation and dealing with stress or anxiety, massage can benefit all.
Treatments usually take place on a massage table or coach, though some may require you to sit in a chair or lay down on a futon-type mat on the floor. If the treatment involves the therapist directly massaging your skin, a nourishing oil or cream-based product will generally be used to provide a free-flowing massage, and towels carefully placed to ensure your modesty and keep you warm and comfortable throughout the treatment.
Before a Massage appointment.
I would appreciate it if you are showered before an appointment and wearing appropriate clothing for access to the skin in the areas that need work during the massage.  Being dressed in shorts or swimming trunks or your underwear, if you feel comfortable with this, is ideal for full body treatments. Before any course of massage treatment, I will spend about 15 minutes getting to know you, and the reason and areas that need a massage treatment. Please let me know if you have any broken skin, skin conditions, bruising or injuries before we start.
Massage Treatments.
Full body Swedish massage.
This massage is normally an hour long and it is designed as a full body pamper, so if this is your first time having a massage it is a great place to start. The full body Swedish massage is the combination of many different techniques rolled into one session. During a session I will work with the soft tissues and muscles in your body to help restore balance and health. The end result will relax the muscles in your body and to help to release any pain that tension may have created.
In a Swedish massage, I use a light essential oil blend to lubricate the skin and use various massage strokes to warm up the muscles, releasing tension, gradually breaking up muscle "knots" or adhered tissues, called adhesions.  Swedish massage promotes blood circulation, stimulates the lymphatic system and promotes relaxation, relieves stress, among many other health benefits.

A Swedish full body massage is the perfect way for anyone who is overly worked and stressed out to relax their body and mind. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish massage therapy can be both relaxing and energizing, and it may even help after an injury.
Back, Shoulder Neck and Face Massage
Our everyday lives can create a lot of tension in the shoulders and back, from sitting working at your computer, writing, or driving.  In times of stress, feelings of anxiety or trouble with sleeping can all lead to tight, raised shoulders.  A relaxing, soothing massage can help to ease the tightness, relax the head and face and ease off the back. Important physical, mental, and emotional benefits can be gained from this relaxing therapy.
Ease tension, reduce headaches and migraines, improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, relax the facial muscles, stimulate blood flow, and boost circulation.
Deep Tissue Massage
This massage is normally an hour long for a full body session. The Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as in the Swedish massage therapy, but the movement is slower, and the pressure is deeper and concentrates on areas of tension and pain to reach the deeper layers of muscle.
Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?
At certain points during the massage, some people may find there is some discomfort. It is important that you let me know when things hurt and if any soreness or pain you experience is outside your comfort range.
Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage.
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions may be helped by a deep tissue massage:

  • Lower back pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tennis elbow
  • Muscle tension or spasm
It is important to drink water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues.
Deep Tissue Massage with Cupping
Cupping has been used for centuries to help with a variety of conditions from back pain, aid digestion, encourage blood and lymph flow, stimulate and improve the look of cellulite and eliminate toxins, combined with a deep tissue massage is an invigorating and relaxing all round massage.
Thai Yoga Massage
Thai massage is a traditional technique in which I will apply pressure to the acupressure points of the body which follow along the energy lines in the body, and gently ease your body into a series of gentle yogic style stretches. This Massage is performed with the client wearing loose fitted clothing. This is a 1-hour massage.
First, during an initial consultation, I will ask about any medical conditions, muscles that require special attention or any health or mind concerns that you may have.
Thai massage is a massage that dates back many thousands of years as a bodywork tradition with a great way to relieve stress, increase blood circulation, boost energy, and return balance to the body and mind.
Aromatherapy Massage
During the initial consultation, a health history will be taken before the massage as essential oils can sometimes cause allergic skin reactions in some people. Essential oils are highly potent and are absorbed through the skin, so it is important to avoid excessive use of aromatherapy oils and to only use oils that have been properly diluted by a carrier oil.
After the consultation, a blend of oils suitable for you will be applied to the skin during the massage.  Aromatherapy massage can be beneficial for a range of conditions, including relaxation, improve sleep, manage pain, alleviate side effects of chemotherapy, ease joint pain and invigorate and stimulate body and mind.
For home treatments I will bring a couch and some blended massage oils as appropriate for the treatment. Please supply your own towels and a blanket to cover your body to keep it warm whilst I work on other areas.

Reflexology
Reflexology helps to restore the body's natural balance, so what does a reflexologist do?
Reflexology is a gentle, relaxing, and beneficial treatment that involves treating the feet with specific massage and manipulation techniques.
Different points on the feet correspond to different organs and areas of the body and reflexology therefore produces an effect that promotes the body's own natural healing process.
