Acupuncture
Release Relax Recover

Acupuncture
Does it hurt; I am afraid of needles ...  how many needles do you use? These might be some of the initial thoughts people have when they think about acupuncture. This can put some people off from trying this form of treatment.
To put your mind at rest, here is what to expect in your treatment sessions.
During the first consultation we will discuss how you are feeling, your symptoms, and I will ask questions about your previous health and wellbeing history.
It is important for me to understand where the imbalances may be in your body and mind to be able to then determine how to restore balance, harmony and improve strength.
As part of the consultation, I will ask to look at your tongue, take your pulses, feel for different temperatures on your abdomen and look at your general physique.
You may be fully or partially clothed for the session depending on the reason for your treatment and you may either lay on a coach or sit on a chair.

The needles are extremely fine and are inserted into key points on the body.
It is a painless treatment, and many people find it a very relaxing experience.
There are over 365 points on the body, so careful, bespoke treatment planning is important.
The acupuncture points can work on physical, mental, and spiritual levels and each have wonderful effects.

Moxibustion.
During an acupuncture treatment, moxibustion, the burning of the herb Mugwort close to the body, may be used. Mugwort or Moxa is great for cold conditions and can nourish the blood and qi.
It provides strengthening and warming and is beneficial if you are feeling low in energy or are susceptible to cold weather.

Cupping.
Cupping is another method that may be used, helping to relax muscles and joints. Glass cups are applied to the body that then create a vacuum, which you will experience as a light suction.

How long is a treatment & how many are needed?
Allow for around an hour for a treatment session and maybe a little longer for the first appointment.
The recommended number of treatment sessions can depend on the reason for treatment.
As a general guide always allow for at least 6 to 8 sessions.
After your treatment, it is advisable to avoid heavy exercise as you may feel a little tired or lightheaded. Any reactions should go after 24 hours.  Sometimes symptoms may feel slightly exaggerated before they then completely disappear.

In many cases people can feel an immediate improvement but it can also take a couple of sessions.   It might be that you have felt unwell for quite some time and you may have chosen acupuncture as a last resort. It is therefore advisable to allow a few sessions for the treatment to take effect and make a difference.
